In abandoned villages, amidst endless stretches of sand and solitary structures, Nasnas lurks in wait for its prey. Those unfortunate enough to catch its attention, whether by sight or sound, stand no chance against the formidable strength and speed of the creature.
APPEARANCE AND ATTRIBUTES
According to Edward Lane, the translator of ‘One Thousand and One Nights’, the Nasnas is half a human being, a malevolent entity from Arabic folklore.
The Nasnas is a truly unsettling sight, as it is, quite literally, only half of a person. Possessing half a head, half a torso, one arm, and one leg, the creature is grotesque in appearance and terrifies anyone who dares to look at it. Some accounts speak of additional features such as a long tail or a wing to aid in balance. Despite its incomplete form, the Nasnas stands upright on its single leg, hopping around with unnatural ease.
Encountering a Nasnas is a dire predicament from which escape is practically impossible, even if the person attempts to flee or hide from the demon. The Nasnas is a powerful evil being, with extraordinary speed, heightened senses and strength far beyond human understanding.
Once a Nasnas so much as touches its victim, the person will die in a matter of seconds, losing his or her flesh in a few moments of unbearable agony. Occasionally, Nasnas may change shape or possess its victim before killing them.
Legend has it that while the Nasnas is incapable of delivering speech due to it having incomplete vocal cords, it can emit an eerie, high pitched sound just before it makes a kill. Travelers wandering along solitary paths might hear strange whispers, compelling them to venture into forgotten caves or tombs where the Nasnas patiently waits.
ORIGINS OF THE NASNAS
The Nasnas is the offspring of a human and a Shiqq. A Shiqq is a lesser form of Jinn, a type of demon. The Shiqq, like the Nasnas, is characterized by its halved form, depicted as a man with one eye, one hand and one leg. Shiqq typically mate with humans to produce Nasnas.
In Somali folklore, the Xunguruuf is identical in appearance and character to the Nasnas.
